Have Australian Web Businesses learnt how to share the revenue?

What is an Affiliate Program? Basically it is a business arrangement where a web site which  makes a sale from a lead generated from your web site pays you a commission for that sale. Some Programs may work also on leads generated or click thrus.

In the US just about every successful dot.com has a revenue sharing program of some kind.... Australian e-business is fast catching on.............so who are they and how well do they perform?

Through our shopping web site that promotes Australian web sites, FastLook Internet Shopping we have been actively promoting a range of Australian Affiliate Programs since January this year.

There was three reasons for this study:

  1. To evaluate the performance of several of Australian Revenue Sharing programs

  2. To demonstrate the ability of our shopping site to send real paying customers to advertising clients rather than just clicks.

Australian Affiliates I do not recommend:

  • Noizenet - why? they no pay :( 

  • DStore - Trouble with Harris Scarfe (the owner) means they haven't paid since January 2001

  • EStore - In receivership & doubtful of any money - also some very unhappy customers

Advice & Tips

  • Look for Affiliate programs that relate to the content of your web site. i.e: if you are writing all about Sailing or fishing then maybe Cumberland Yacht Charter is for you.....

  • Who is looking at your site? if they are Australians then they probably want to buy from an Australian store, in Australian Dollars.

  • Text tends to work better than banners.

  • Tiered Affiliate Programs can add another dimension to your business through multi level marketing (yeah, I know Amway on the net, but it works.....oh and by the way they are on the Net check it out......www.a2k.com.au :)
